WHAT IS A POWWOW?
A powwow is a gathering of Indian people who come together to sing, dance, renew friendships and make new ones. Just as importantly, a powwow is the time to focus thoughts on the old ways and to preserve Native Americans' rich heritage. Informally, it is a social occasion, an opportunity for good times. It's a chance to affirm the joy of life and the dignity of a living culture. It's a chance to get back in touch with the heartbeat of the Earth
